ABOUT US
The United Way of Harnett County was
organized in 1987 by a group of community volunteers. This was one
hundred years following the establishment in Denver, Colorado, of
the first united charitable organization formed to plan a single
fund-raising effort for various community agencies previously supported
separately.
The United Way of Harnett County is a private nonprofit agency
whose mission is to mobilize the community and create partnerships
that make a measurable difference in people's lives.
Each year, volunteers assess the human service needs of Harnett
County and commit to raising and distributing funds to organizations
that meet these charitable needs. Because it is committed to keeping
local money at home, 97% of the dollars raised stay in Harnett County
and only 18% of the funds are used for administrative and fundraising
purposes.
The United Way of Harnett County is currently governed by a 14-member Board
of Directors chaired by John Rouse with the Harnett County Health Dept.
Currently, Hylton P. Lawrence serves as the part-time executive director and Chief Professional Officer.
Information concerning running an employee campaign or volunteering is available
